With hearts full of love and remembrance, we celebrate the life of Aaron Garrett Mitchell, who was born on June 4, 1979, in Sanford, North Carolina, and peacefully transitioned on December 30, 2025, in Sanford, North Carolina.
Aaron was a graduate of Lee County High School. Aaron accepted Christ early in his life. He was a devoted member of Christian Faith Ministries, where he dutifully served as an usher demonstrating his unwavering faith. Church was not just a place he attended, it was a way of life for him as he loved his church family. Aaron also had a love for music and praise. He became an essential part of The Mitchellettes in 2015 and, with his blessed and strong voice, performed in their 34th anniversary before he was called home. Music was his heartbeat and outlet of self- expression. He had a deep love for Gospel, R&B and Jazz. He loved taking photos, documenting memories, and capturing moments that reflected his joy and personality.
Aaron was taught early that family was very important. He was always ready to take a trip to support, encourage or just enjoy time with family. He was known for taking impromptu road trips with his travel buddy and cousin, Harold Lee Murphy. They would often head to the beach, enjoying the journey just as much as the destination.Whether music, football, or movies—especially those centered on family, Aaron found happiness in the things that brought people together. He proudly supported the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team of his all-time favorite player “Big Ben.”Aaron found joy in simple moments such as soaking in the hot tub, playing video games to stay grounded, and spending time with his younger cousin Ja’Lyn Womack and his nephew Joshua “Josh”Mitchell, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Though he endured and fought through much in life, he remained unquestionably kind and loving, which requires even more strength. He had a way of making everyone feel seen. Children gravitated toward him because of his pure heart and sweet soul. He was empathetic, caring, thoughtful, and a steady rock for his family. Above all else, there was no one he loved more than his mother. He was deeply devoted to her and stood by her side whenever she needed him, a role he embraced with pride and love. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eric Mitchell, and his father, Milton Battle. He leaves earthside, to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Glenda Person; his bonus father, Jimmy “Chubby” Person; his Goddaughter, Sanaya Frances Stukes; and his brothers: Travis Mitchell, Curtis Evans, Anthony Battle, Ricky Battle, Jeffrey “Jeff”Battle, and Robert Battle. His legacy continues through his nephews: Josh Mitchell, Tavion “Tae”Mitchell, and Davion “Von”Mitchell and a host of relatives, and special friends whose lives were touched by his warmth, charisma and genuine spirit.
