Rebecca Bell Obituary

“But we remember now in love, Your life from start to end, And we’re just glad we knew you, As Wife, Mother, Sister, and as Friend.” (Author Unknown)

MRS. REBECCA ANN “Becky” BRIDGES BELL was born on August 26, 1959 to the late Ernest and Dorothy Williams Bridgers in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a graduate of Fairmont Heights High School, Baltimore.

Once she graduated from high school, she met Lawrence Bell of Bunnlevel, NC. They were united in marriage in 1982. Soon, they moved their family from Baltimore and made their home in Sanford, NC. “Becky” had a strong work ethic. Her various employers were the former Zayre Department Store, the former Cascade Fibers Company, and Moen, Inc. For 15 years, she dedicated herself as an employee at Big Lots Department Store in Sanford and Southern Pines. She was promoted to the position of Assistant Manager for both locations. She retired in 2014.

“Becky” was a supportive mother and grandmother to her three children and six grandchildren. Her tender hand guided the pathway of her two oldest grandchildren: Dalvin and Taveun Davis. In 2017, she rededicated her life to Christ and was a regular church attendee until her health began to fail.

“Becky” was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dorothy Bridgers; her sister, Brenda Matthews; her grandmother, Dessie Bridgers, who raised her; her uncles, Mack Bridgers and Matthew Bridgers and her aunts, Pearl Sanders and Angeline Bridgers Holder.

In the stillness of Monday evening, May 20, 2019, “Becky” quietly transitioned from her earthly life as her heavenly Father whispered in her ear “well done, good and faithful servant.”

The precious memories of “Becky” will forever be etched in the hearts and souls of her husband, Lawrence Bell; her children, Teresa Simmons (Greg Ray) of Raeford NC, Jimmy Bell of Sanford NC and Samantha Bell (Malaik Flournoy, Sr.) of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, who were “her hearts and love”: Dalvin Davis of Sanford NC, Taveun Davis of Morganton NC, Ms “Missy” Simmons, Warren Simmons of Sanford, NC, Jamari Bell of Sanford, NC and Malaik “Quan” Flournoy, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; her brother, Ernest Bridgers (Tirca) of Wilson, NC; her sister, Teresa Ann Covington (James Smith) of Raleigh, NC; her aunts, Annie Ruth Bridgers Kent (Andrew) of Knightdale NC, Sarah Brown of Elm City NC and Sadie Anderson of Charlotte NC; her uncles, Liberty “LB” Bridgers, Luther “Buddy” Bridgers and Prentiss “Sugarfoot” Vinson (Cleo) of Baltimore, MD; her brothers-in-law, James Bell and Curtis Bell of Bunnlevel, NC and Apurnell Bell of Fayetteville NC; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Lett and Mary Bell Swann of Sanford, NC and Martha Bell Dawson of Bunnlevel, NC; generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends, including her special friend, Mr. James and her former co-workers, Betty McLean and Ms. Tammy.
